With the rapid growth of e‑commerce and numerous other industries, domestic logistics and urban delivery services have experienced swift expansion. According to statistics, the market size for urban delivery in China has reached RMB 1.6 trillion; however, among all vehicles currently in use, new‑energy vehicles account for only 5%, leaving substantial room for future growth.
Driven by relevant policies, the urban delivery market for new-energy commercial vehicles is expected to expand further after 2020. Recently, Panasonic Corporation and Beijing Four Dimensions Digital Technology Co., Ltd. announced plans to establish a joint venture to accelerate the wider adoption of new-energy commercial vehicles.
By integrating Panasonic’s battery‑health assessment technology with NavInfo’s China‑wide map‑information services, the initiative aims to provide the Chinese logistics and delivery sector with operational solutions and a support platform for new‑energy commercial vehicles, thereby accelerating the adoption of such vehicles across the industry, particularly in urban delivery.
Yasumichi Murase, Senior Executive Officer in charge of Mobility Solutions at Panasonic Corporation, stated: “We are delighted to establish a joint venture with NavInfo, a highly trusted smart‑mobility company in China, to jointly deliver high‑quality services to Chinese customers. By integrating our battery‑health assessment technology, we will make clean, new‑energy vehicles even more affordable and convenient, continuing to contribute to social development.”
Cheng Peng, CEO of NavInfo, stated: “By deploying mobile‑solution capabilities, Panasonic is able to leverage its more than a century of expertise in system R&D and operational services across electronics, components, and related fields, applying these strengths to the core segments of future mobility. We hope that NavInfo’s location‑data products and connected‑car services will synergize with Panasonic, and that, through our joint venture, we can help drive the development of the new‑energy commercial‑vehicle and logistics sectors.”
The two parties have jointly developed a roadmap and timeline for future objectives, pooling their core technological capabilities to research and develop China‑standard operational solutions for new‑energy commercial vehicles. This collaboration will drive joint innovation and technological upgrades, helping to reduce costs and improve efficiency in urban delivery operations, fostering the upgrading of the new‑energy commercial vehicle industry and contributing to the early realization of a clean society.
