On July 7, the Ministry of Transport released the 2021 Report on the Development of Transportation Standardization, which reviews and summarizes the significant achievements China made in transportation standardization during the 13th Five-Year Plan period. During this period, the Ministry issued a total of 1,671 standards, including 275 national standards and 1,396 industry standards; among these, 203 were mandatory standards and 1,468 were recommended standards, resulting in a more comprehensive standard system and a more rational standard‑setting framework.

In the development of a logistics standards system, priority has been given to specialized areas such as intermodal transport, cold-chain logistics, drop-and-hook transportation, the carriage of dangerous goods, and the transport of oversized and heavy cargo. Efforts have been accelerated to formulate and revise standards covering logistics facilities and equipment, transport operations, management services, and information technology, thereby fostering the growth of the modern logistics industry.

In the development of an information‑technology standards framework, efforts have been made to promote the innovative application and advancement of cloud computing, big data, the Internet of Things, mobile internet, artificial intelligence, and other IT technologies within the transportation sector. This has accelerated the formulation and revision of standards covering IT infrastructure, data resources, information applications, cybersecurity, and engineering specifications, ensuring that the industry’s IT initiatives are carried out in a standardized and orderly manner, while enhancing the efficiency of IT‑based services and safeguarding network security.

In the face of new circumstances, new requirements, new opportunities, and new challenges, transportation standardization will further play a foundational, leading, and strategic role in driving high-quality development of the sector, providing robust support for building a comprehensive, multi-dimensional national transportation network and accelerating the country’s efforts to become a transportation powerhouse.
